The School Chaplain, Mr Pat Walsh, aims to work with students and teachers to promote the celebration of the Christian faith.

The chaplain meets and introduces himself and his role to each of the first year classes. All first years have a prayer service of welcome on a class by class basis in September. In October Our Lady is promoted and hand-outs and prayer services are organised to honour our Lady. We also have the opening of year school Mass for both junior and senior groups.

A November prayer service for deceased family and friends is organised for each year group and for staff. This is prepared in consultation with the religion teachers and delivered to each class group. The chaplain works with each religion teacher to deliver the service and they in turn repeat the service for their individual classes. In December the Advent Wreath is set up in the entrance area and its meaning is explained to each class group. The crib and Christmas tree are also set up by the chaplain in the Social Area of the school. A service of light/carol service is organised for first years and staff members. These are very successful and set a nice tone for Christmas in the school community.

Chaplain - 1For February and in preparation for the feast of St Blaise each student has the opportunity to have his throat blessed and this is carried out in the school. Staff may also avail of this blessing. February also sees a big promotion for St Brigid and the celebration of her feast day. At the beginning of Lent a special service is held on Ash Wednesday for each year group. Students are given time to reflect on the past and prepare spiritually during lent for the Easter season.

March sees Patrick’s day which is also marked by producing material suitable for classes and explaining his feast. Preparation for Easter means selecting and making available resource material in preparation for the Easter season.

In May we mark the end of our Academic year with the Graduation Mass for sixth years, their parents and teachers.
