| Ardscoil Rís is an all boys secondary school located in the heart of Limerick. The 1st of September 1963 saw the Christian Brothers open the doors of Ardscoil Rís on Limerick's North Circular Road to welcome 52 students. The teaching staff consisted of the principal, Brother McGinnity and Mr. Michael Field, who later became the first lay principal of the school. Classes were first held in an old house until purpose-built classrooms were developed. Ardscoil's earliest students included Pat Cox, later a noted debater, academic, television journalist-presenter and politician. He is now an M.E.P. for Munster and the first Irishman to become President of the European Parliament.
From these small beginnings, the school, augmented by periodic extensions grew into its modern form, containing over 700 students and a teaching staff of 42. The current principal is Ms. Bríd de Brún, while the Deputy Principal is Mr. Liam Martin. The school enjoys a wide reputation for academic and sporting excellence.
