Ardscoil Rís Senior Rugby Team 2007-2008
The Ardscoil Rís Senior Rugby Squad have training 2/3 times a week since early September. Early morning training sessions consisting of circuits and weights are currently being conducted on Tuesday's and Thursday's under the instruction of Mr. Long and Mr. O'Loughlin . The squad is made up of approximately 25 players and it has been strengthened recently by the availability of the Bowen Shield players. The Management team is made up of the following personnel - Head Coach Chris de Looze , Forwards Coach Mick Fitzgibbon and Manager John Deegan. Sporting a new Senior Jersey, Ardscoil Rís has completed several friendly fixtures in preparation for the cup outing. The traditional fixtures against the other Munster schools - PBC, Castletroy (twice), Munchins, Glenstal (twice), Crescent Comprehensive, and CBC have all been fulfilled to varying degrees of success. Injuries and the unavailability of the Munster players have depleted the squad on occasion. However other players have grabbed their opportunities and are now claiming serious consideration for a place in the starting XV. As we approach the business end of the season, it appears we have a full panel to choose from.
Some impressive performances including overturning a 17 point deficit at half time against Newbridge College to go on to win 19- 17. Ardscoil Rís also emerged victorious 22-21 in an epic encounter against Glenstal Abbey in Murroe. Other wins were recorded against Cistercian College Roscrea, Crescent Comprehensive and the Munster Youths.
A number of fixtures have been organised post Christmas in the build up to the Cup. On January 4th the team will travel to Galway to play Coláiste lognáid, the 2007 Connacht Senior Schools winner. Following the match we will travel to the Showgrounds to take in a Magners League fixture. Other fixtures include Cistercian College Roscrea on Wednesday 9th January (Home) and Pres Bray on Saturday 19th January (Home). |
