Transition Year Programme 2007 - 2008

This year there is a total of ninety six students the largest in history of the Transition Year. As well as the core modules the programme now includes Polish, Sign Language, Applied Maths, and Politics. I.T. students are now working for their ECDL certificates. Along with the challenging programme TY I and TY II have been on their first Work Experience. Some students have been to London , Dublin and Galway.

All students attended a Forensic Demonstration and lecture organised by Mr. Liam Kennedy . Ms Paula Reidy took her students to U.L. to a mathematics lecture. A full week was devoted to a comprehensive First Aid Programme given by members of the Ambulance Service. Already the students from Group III have been on Social Placement for a full week . Fr. Chris O'Donnell and Aoife Walsh gave a presentation on the Anois Programme and over twenty students showed interest in being involved. Over forty pupils have begun the programme to gain the Gaisce Bronze Medal.

Visitors from the Enterprise Board and Limerick Youth Service have also given presentations to the students. A number of students have attended an Enterprise Workshop with Ms. Karen Burke in the Clarion Hotel. Meanwhile the Environmentalists have been recycling and ensuring that we retain our coveted Green Flag.

Next January Bayside Services will give a two day seminar on Safe Driving. Their Drive for Life Programme is directed at young people and in the current safe driving climate this should be a salutary and invaluable experience. At the moment Mr. Niall Dennehy is finished arrangements for the three day adventure programme, which this year returns to the Delphi Adventure Centre.
