Under 16 “A” Hurling

Ardscoil Rís successfully began their defence of the Limerick Colleges U16 `A' title with a hard fought victory over a strong Newport side. Although played in difficult conditions, the game turned out to be a tense and exciting one with both sides displaying great determination and skill. Newport got the upper hand early on racing into a 1-2 to 0-3 points lead with Ardscoil staying in contention thanks mainly to some excellent long range frees by centre-back Declan Hannon . Mid way through the half, Ardscoil got to grips with their opponents and a goal from David Sheppard along with some fine scores from Shane Dowling and Mark Ryan had them 2 points to the good at halftime. (1-8 to 2-3). The second half was a very tight, even affair. Five pointed frees from Shane Dowling ensured that Ardscoil never gave up their first half advantage. Final Score 2-13 to 3-7. Ardscoil had some excellent performances from Eoghan Daly and Declan Hannon in defence, while Ronan Liston and Mark Ryan were influential in attack. Ardscoil now advance to the semi final where they will play Hospital in a repeat of last years decider after Christmas.
